The sunrise this morning in Western PEI was wonderful and it shone right in my room. I took a picture and it did the real thing no justice whatsoever! I left at around 8 and rode down the South side of the island on Hwy 14. The second town I got to was Skinner's Pond and this is the place where the Canadian singer Stompin Tom Connors grew up. There is even a street named after him. I also rode past the PEI Potato Museum....I can only imagine what they would look like, preserved, so that we can enjoy them in perpetuity? :-) Do they keep one from each year of production for the display?... I'm just kidding of course.
I left PEI via the Confederation Bridge after paying a $17.25 toll. Pretty cool to see that marvelous piece of construction. You can't see a lot as the wall is about the height of your shoulders. On the NB side I turned onto Hwy 970 which turns into NS 366 when you cross the Tidnish Bridge. This is part of the Sunrise Scenic route which winds it's way along the coast of NS. At Pictou, I got back to the Trans Canada and went a little south to New Glasgow where a got onto 347 and this took me through the forested middle part of the province. It wound along the rivers and got me to the coast where I turned onto Hwy 7. This again winds its way in and out of the harbours, out onto peninsulas, and through many quaint little towns which were once booming fishing centres. I had a great Haddock dinner at one of these places.. great food. I am staying in Dartmouth for the night.
